Sowp Canada (Spousal Open Work Permit)

The applicant will be able to apply for a spouse’s open work permit if your spouse is currently studying or working in Canada with a valid visa. A spouse will be able to work in any company. A dependent child can also accompany his/her parents in Canada. The process of application varies depending on the applicant’s spouse status in Canada.

Eligibility requirement for SOWP

  • Must be in a legal relationship with the Principal Applicant, Canadian citizen, or a Permanent Residency in Canada.
  • Financial documents are necessary to show the expenses in Canada.
  • The applicant should be 18 years and above.
  • Medical exam is mandatory

  • Work permit processing fee $155 CAD

How long does the spouse open work permit valid, and can it be extended?

The spousal open work permit is valid until the primary applicant’s permit in Canada is valid. As the Spouse Open Work Permit validity is based on the primary applicant, it can be re-applied on the basis of your spouse’s work permit.
